a) provides a means whereby gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning members of the Saint John community can meet socially in an atmosphere conducive to discuss issues which face them;
b) advocates for rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender questioning members of the Saint John community when those rights are infringed;
c) increases awareness of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community of the issues facing gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders in society in an effort to promote acceptance and understanding;
d) provides information and resources regarding gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues to the community at large.
Membership would be open to all open minded individuals, regardless of orientation.
The following are the only guidelines which should be followed. Other than that, the atmosphere should be kept enjoyable and informal. Anyone doing any of the following will be asked to leave the meeting:
a) inappropriate behaviour - This includes but is not limited to attending a meeting after consuming drugs or alcohol, making racist, sexist or homophobic remarks at a meeting, and not respecting other attendees at either a general meeting or group social activity.
b) cruising - When a person is attending a meeting for the sole reason of meeting a sexual partner. This often makes the attendees of the meeting uncomfortable.
c) safety risk - When the executive officers feel that the attendance of this person may put the safety of other meeting attendees at risk.
d) outing - when a person is breaking the confidentiality of attendees of a general meeting by telling others the names of people who are attending the meetings.
In order to protect the privacy of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender members of the community, no person who attends a meeting is required to give their real name. Additionally, no membership list shall be kept. |
